Down to the wire!!

I am happy to report that the light at the end of the tunnel of my book project is now a glowing orb! I am making good progress down the final stretch and hope to press the 'send' button to the printer sometime before the hunting season starts.

Today as I was putting the finishing touches on the chapter for the Majorcan Pointer (Ca Mè Mallorqui), a breed from an island just off the east coast of Spain, I remembered a really, really cool video of another kind of hunting dog from the region. In English it is called the Ibizan Hound but the Spanish call it Podenco Ibicenco and the residents of Ibiza (who speak Catalan) call it the Ca Eivissenc

Ibizan hounds are a type of site hound from the island of Ibiza (Majorca's neighbor), They specialize in hunting rabbits by scent and sight. We saw some on Mallorca when we were there to photograph the Ca Mè but unfortunately we didn't get a chance to see them work. After seeing the video, I really wish we had. Oh well, I guess that means we will have to get back there one day!

Oh, forgot to mention, the video is in Spanish, but even if you don't understand what is being said, the action is pretty easy to follow. Basically, the dogs hunt in pairs or small packs and run/leap across the terrain to catch rabbits. The narration describes the breed's history, character, hunting abilities and how breeders select and train them.

Enjoy!!
