Well we are now 6 days into the Great Dutch Adventure up here and things are still just rolling along. The snipe seem to have taken the strong north wind to warmer climes (heads up all you snipe hunters to our south...there are birds on the way!) so we are mainly after ruffed and sharptailed grouse. The sharpies are getting more and more wary and getting a point on one is a tall order. The Dutch dogs are learning to handle our birds better and better each time out. They both have a ton of natural ability and are a real pleasure to hunt over. The Dutch hunters are true sportspersons and pretty good shots too! I managed to book them a duck hunt with my friend Clarence, a métis guide and awesome duck caller. He took them to a large marsh and they came home with mallards, bluebills, canvasbacks and pintails...11 ducks in total.
Last night we had a great big hunters' feast at the cabin they are renting. We dined on various game birds and HUGE T-bone steaks from the local grass fed black angus cows that are raised in the area.
Today we are back out in the field after sharptails, tomorrow we'll head to the marsh again and then on Wednesday we head to North Dakota to see if we can find us some roosters! We will make a quick trip to Saskatchewan as well to chase huns.
I will try to update the blog somewhere along the road if/when I find an internet connection.
Oh, and photos too... I actually took a few yesterday. I will post them as soon as I can.
